Over the summer, Duck did article work. He did a few very short, as in 30-50 ft. He does not like to work in the summer sun, heat and humidity.

Still hot, 78 degrees but lower humidity. Put out a 2 turn, right 90 & left 90 turns, last leg went thru shade. Approx. 150 yds total. I walked and scuffed into first turn and then scuffed out of the second turn. One food drop per leg. ( Mistake- ants got to it).

Great down indication of articles for start and finish. I was too slow getting him a food reward . Tried new gloves and last time using them. I was surprised that he didn’t go right out strongly from the article. At times Duck pulled a lot. He was very clearly tracking by putting weight and throwing shoulders on the track for the turns.

He was very enthusiastic and that had been missing for a long time.

We need to build up to longer tracks, both straight and turns. Thinking about using the longer line so he has more room to work on the turns.

See video below and you will need to zoom in a lot.

Tucker Park, Maidens, VA 55F, 28% humidity, sunny, only 5 mph WNW winds Goal: start tracks with right turns. Work on my recognition of Duck doing a turn and following the actual track. Outcome: Duck i

More room to work on the turns is a bad idea. I can that “more line to hang yourself with.” If he can’t find it at the turn, with 6-10 feet of line (start at 6, let him work, give him 2 more feet, let him work, and then 2 more feet). MORE LINE IS NOT THE ANSWER WHEN TRAINING. You’re making it harder for him, not easier. I’d rather you tell us precisely how you laid the turn/turns he struggled with, so we can come up with a plan for next time, which you did! And I think he looked excellent!

It’s so interesting how scuff in or out makes such a difference. He’s a challenge for me but I’m excited that he’s got his energy back. He’s going to get start tracks next.
