Huguenot Park track in 69F cloudy day, on short damp grass.

New problem this year is signs 'field closed'. These are at 3 of the schools and or parks that we have used last year. Today, I ignored the sign however, liklely not a wise thing to do going forward.

She started track well, slow and methodical with tail held high and stiff, downing for the article, then was again slightly off the track by a foot, the food drop brings her back on the direct line. She went last the turn but picked her head up so I stopped and she coursed to to get on the track. Again she stays just of the track 1-2 feet, I moved behind her and she moved closer to the track but just off it. She got the left turn directly, and wentkard the article, downed for indication. Reward was food....not using the ball reward

I am confused as to why she does this at such a leisurely pace compared to searching off leash for an item, where here tail is swiping at a high rate and she moves really quickly.

Probably because we are asking her to think and be precise, not simply run around and find the item. Her way is faster, our way is what we need for a test. It wouldn’t surprise me if she speeds up as she figures out the game.

A few months ago, River confused scentwork with tracking and it did take some time for her to understand the difference. It was kind of cute initially as she was looking for the start article and was just confused by its absence. I took the harness out of scentwork and use a different leash, then she really improved. So, I do believe that with more tracks, she will understand and remember the tracking game. This week I’m going to continue with 1-2 turn tracks, not very lengthy and frequent food drops to get her to hug the track as much as possible and maybe see some more speed to get the food. I somehow think that she may not ever…
