Over summer, worked on article indication, and very short straight or one turn tracks. 30-50 feet in total length.
Noticed that in heat and humidity River’s nose comes off the ground more than in cooler months. Initially I was concerned but she would just turn and look at me then pull into the track so I just followed. She is not as bothered by the heat and high temperatures as Duck. Struggle is keeping her hydrated. Can I take a syringe and shoot water into her mouth?
Today, River was to try two 125 length tracks. No food, I scuffed into the first, a left 90 turn and scuffed out of the second, a right 90 turn.
First track became a straight one that I threw down an article at the turn. Huge challenge was ahead. Family with kids and dog on a blanket and playing catch. They camped out dead center on the track line. Every time out there is some challenge for River but this was too much.
Second track was actually a nice experience. I keep forgetting that I cannot pick up the start article until she is well ahead of me, otherwise she thinks I’m going in the pocket for her ball. I also have to think about placing a ball away from the end article as a reward.
Going forward we need to build duration with length and turns. Totally worth the drive to this park.
