Took River on 3 different fields each day. Initially I put food 6 and 8 steps from start over 2 days, which kept her staight on the start. Day 3, only one piece of food 8 steps out on 3 tracks. She still had her nose down and was straight. Further out she does start out more to the left of the track, cuts back in to grab food.if I move directly behind her she stays there , cuts back for the food. This is somewhat of a swerving pathway with frequent food drops. She did this last January/February when I started her . As we get to the later tracks and legs, she is more directly on the track. I am puzzled by this.
Success for one aspect that needed attention. So, the turns. Turns = scent pad. Good in theory and most excellent in reality on all 3 days. On 2/16, only a couple of pieces of hot dog on first two tracks. Then on final track, I hit the turn and ran out of food (discovered the extra baggie of food was not in my vest ...turned out it fell next to the car on the ground). I decided to scuff out of the turn and mid way through the last leg.
How did this work out. She's right in the turns with the scent pad. Gets the correct turn. Last leg, she cut the turn by 2 ft, her nose was down to the ground. She went directly on the left turn, but the cut corner concerns me.
I've switched to the line that I used for Duck as it's narrower and lighter so easier to keep the correct tension. Omg, if I let it get too tight, River noticed immediately and turned to ask do you not want me going that way.
I believe that I have to work more on the standing not in the turn direction to let her look for the scent of the track.
And, happily my Duckman is doing fine, still needs booster melanoma vaccines, but he can definitely get more tracking time.
