Post class note with her track video.

We had practiced article games and she was doing her down indication without a prompt at the start, all the ones in between(10), end article on Judi’s article game and oops I dropped it game.

11/14/25 last Judi’s article game before class

So, on her tracks at class she totally made a liar out of me and required prompting.

We will continue to practice these games as instructed by Anne and MaryAnn. And, I will be joyful using my happy time voice and smile to her. I do know it works as it got her a CDX.

Will also do start tracks as turns are a weak point for me with regard to recognizing that she has the track on a turn.

Other observations, the longer grass and odd large weed plant life was a challenge for her as was the scent of wildlife off on the side of track 2. Perhaps if I went more quickly with her on the turn we would have avoided the wildlife scent distraction. I do hope that I can react snore quickly to her turn and support her choice rather than making her second guess or feel the need to explore.

Video you tube link to class track 2 is below, it was laid by Maryann Massy, 2 blind turns. This track went near a more wooded area so I plan to do tracks close to the end of brush, trees or path for a challenge with food to help. I am grateful that I don’t need to slow her down on the track.

We worked in the house and in backyard on a mix of randomly scattered old and a new articles, glove & cell phone case. The strategy Jenn recommended worked ! Both dogs ended up doing down indication

Sunny day and no significant winds, very dry only 28% humidity. Added 2 different glove articles into the 10 article drop. Our goal is for better down indication without prompting on Betty’s article t

Hi Maureen, great start with class - you and both your pups did quite well! Just remember that it's been some time since they've gone out with a bunch of other people and dogs around. And, it's difficult to find places to practice with that type of grass; in all likelihood, I'd imagine you're likely most often in areas where it's more manicured so it's to be expected that the pups in general enjoyed the scents the tall grass had to offer :)! I think if you find tall grass to practice in, potentially increase your augmentation. Also, for the turns, work in (not for every turn) the five treats in and out that we used a bit in class.

I haven't gone there in a bit but Powhatan State Park often has high grass fields like this depending on when they cut. Let me know if you'd like to meet up there one weekend!
