Still trying to bounce back from mistake at class with allowing her to go left off track since I didn’t have point of the turn identified and put in 100 step leg(~70-75yds), then left 90 turn.
She was veering off halfway out, but I just tried not to move forward. I could feel her frustration and I did side step toward the track line. I did not toss any food as she would continue to pull off to the left and come back expecting tossed food. Once she did the turn, she was more focused on tracking again.
She was happy to play fetch after getting to the article.
I know instructors are likely going to bash me in the head for doing a longer track with her but I wanted to see if she could get beyond the veering off to the left zone and be happy afterwards.
So, I did have River do a 3 turn track, scuffed in and out of turn, S5W16F8 just to let her go and maybe have a less frustrating experience. Originally, I had this track planned for Duck and I did rewalk it for him later with one food drop per leg.
The first leg had a turn at the length where she’s getting off the track line. It was a right turn. I felt she was happier getting to and staying on the track approaching and doing the right turn. Sadly she was veering off to the left on the second leg but there was actually dog poop (Duck veered to mark it) and I don’t know if this was a factor. I tried to wait her out until she was more on the track line. I felt her conflicted at the left turn. Figured it out and from there she had her spine on the track and did a more confident final left turn and last leg although she did have to ignore a nearby orange construction or soccer practice cone.

i'm not sure where your frustration is coming from. like valerie, i do not see what you are seeing from your 'spine' perspective. let's focus on what she is doing right for a moment - ridiculously good article indication, nice line tension, nice nose down tracking. now to address what you have said are issues - so when you know where the track is, you have two choices - when she moves off the track by more than 2 ft, stop don't let line out and wait for her to swing back over. Or, step over behind her fanny and see if she comes back to the track. you know all this maureen. don't get frustrated with her - …
Hi Maureen
I have a hard time seeing some of the distance work even when I blow up the image. Especially at the second turns.
From what I can see:
Starts are good
Line handling good on the straight runs
Good article indications
Not sure what happened at second turn on second video; people walking by, you mentioned dog poop, I can’t really see what happened.
My comments are for River.
