Watched Judi’s video in an attempt to make sure I had the correct mechanics.
Tried this exercise with food.
Wandered in small space with River and said leave it. Then put food down by my foot. River stopped moving and stared at me. She did not go to the food. Tried just holding the food out. She did the same thing. If I gave her a release, she went to the food.
Based on instructions I want the movement to me after I say leave it so next I’ll try this with a toy.
I am quite sure I suggested you start this in a small room, and no, since she speaks not one word of English I wouldn't expect her to go your hand. You will have to train this behavior, ideally starting in a smaller room without any distractions. Let her know you have the food. Ignore her. Cue leave it, and offer the food--move your hand, make it interesting.
